Tweeting for cash
During a great discussion with @PaulRushing, I got to thinking, is it ok to send out sponsored tweets? While this is far from a Twitter blog, I think this has a very real relationship to personal finance. After all, if you do accept money to tweet a certain message, that’s money that you could put in your emergency fund. Or use to pay off debt.
Paul was basically of the opinion that sponsored tweets are selling out, and pretty much unacceptable for any reason. I can’t help but disagree. If someone ( Land Rover, in our discussion ) offered me $1,000 to send out a positive tweet about one of their products, I couldn’t hammer out the words fast enough. That’s a grand, which would look great in my savings account instead of Land Rover’s. Sometimes it makes sense to accept money for something that we normally might not – as long as we don’t “cross the line.”
What say you – paid tweets ok or not so much?
Disclaimer: I have not, to date, accepted a dime for any tweet I’ve made.

What is really lost in 140 characters is that we all have a personal level of what we feel is acceptable. I am a huge proponent of inbound marketing and have built my business entirely using that from of lead generation.
To maximize social media companies need to give people something worth talking about and not just seek traffic from any source.
I could not praise a product just because they paid me to. I have seen some of the tweets re: Land Rover campaign. Chances are most of those tweeting it have never been inside of one.
Now if they were trying to build awareness and executed a little differently it could of been a huge win as is it is just spam..
