Should I sell or should I hold?
Anytime you talk about investing money, the topic of "when to sell" always comes up. After all, there are two parts to an investment - buying, and selling to take your earnings. New investors ( like myself ) commonly make one mistake:
They have an itchy trigger finger
The biggest problem that newbies have is that we sell too often, and too early. Generally speaking, you should do enough research on a stock / fund before you purchase, so that you’re comfortable with it’s odds. Small dips and drops will happen along the way - guaranteed! Don’t sell just because things don’t look good. Hang in there, and stick it out. Nearly always, you’ll end up glad that you did.
If you find yourself wanting to sell, sell, sell, perhaps you have a different problem than you think. Before buying a new investment, research the heck out of it. Sleep on it. Talk to someone about it. Be sure that you’re making the right choice before you buy, and you’ll save yourself some headache later. The longer you keep your investments ( usually ), the better it works out for you.
