Not to the site, but to me!  I turned the ripe young age of 26 today.  Instead of taking the day off to relax and rest, I’m working as usual.  After work I’ll head out to a nice little Mexican restaurant with my wife and son to celebrate.  Nothing too fancy, just a nice time out with some good food.

After today though, my wife and I have some work to do.  I’ve chronicled my financial efforts here at Llama Money since way back in November of 2007.  I have made progress, though not anywhere near as much as I should’ve.  Tomorrow after work ( yep, I work on Saturday too ), we’ll be sitting down at the dinner table to revamp our budget.  First, though, we’ll be setting some long term goals.  That’s something we’ve never really had, at least not officially.  “Getting rich” isn’t really a concrete goal, after all.

Goals first, budget second

To plan out our budget, we need to figure out what our goals are.  Once we’ve penciled out a few short, mid, and long term goals, then we can set about with a budget makeover.  And let me tell me, our budget is ugly.  Not only is there so much fluff in there that it would make the US government seem frugal, we consistently overspend our lofty budgeted amounts.  I think I’ll have to pull out the machete and start cutting ruthlessly.  We may even expand our efforts at using the envelope budgeting system, as much as I dislike it.

Changes in the air

Once we get our goals set, and our budget mapped out, I think we’ll feel a little better about money.  I’ll keep you guys posted on our changes early next week, so don’t worry about that.  Look for that probably Tuesday or so.

Anyway, that’s enough from me today.  Back to work, and then to enjoy my 26th birthday.
