December-nw December, and the whole year of 2007, is gone, and here is the third installment of my net worth report.  Simply click on the picture to the left to get a legible version of my net worth.

Liquid Assets

Following the pattern of last month, my liquid assets took a nosedive this month.  In fact, this is the first time in recent memory that I have negative liquid assets.  In effect, I owe more on credit cards and short term debt than I have available in cash.  Ouch.  What happened?  Well, Christmas did bad things to my wallet.  The details are all in that post, so take a look.  I am not going to let that happen again, and will do my absolute best to be in the positive for January’s report.

My Cars

One of my cars took a $700 dive in book value, so I actually have more negative equity this month than I did last month.  I was hoping to be under the $10k mark, but it was apparently not to be.  With that setback, I’m probably looking at February before I am under $10k in the hole.

My House

My house / neighborhood still isn’t on Zillow.com, so I’m using the VA appraisal from when I purchased it.  By those standards, the equity in my home increased slightly to $16937.20.

Retirement

My retirement accounts had a big dip early in the month, but recovered as the month went on.  Overall they were up about 3% for the month – a little rough considering the contributions, but still a movement upward.  I’m going to try to increase my contributions here so that I’m getting started on the right foot for my old age.

Overall

My net worth took a beating of $1442.80 – almost the entire gain that I made in November.  I’m really feeling the money squeeze, and I’m extremely disappointed that I handled Christmas so poorly.  I did expect a NW decrease this month; I was just hoping for it to be less dramatic.  No worries – the 8% loss is done, in the past.  All I can do now is try to do better from here forward.  It’s a new year, with new goals.  I’m going into this next year with a very positive outlook for my financial future.
