A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow
When it comes to financial matters, we like to put things off. I do it. You do it. Most people do – no reason to deny it. It’s just so much easier to say that we’ll do it tomorrow.
The problem, of course, is that tomorrow never comes. The late General George Patton said it best, with the title of this post:
“A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.”
Sit down, with your spouse if you’re married, today. Right now if you can, but today nonetheless. Get out all your financial statements and go over them. Create a budget. Figure out how to stick to it. Set goals, and figure out how you’re going to achieve them. Your plan won’t be perfect – but that’s ok. Get a plan right now, today, and you’ll be in better financial shape tomorrow.
If you wait for tomorrow, you’ll eventually realize that it never comes.

No time like the present. I agree completely.
The first budget is always the scariest. When you find up how much you really have to spend on things, really wakes you up.

When my wife and I finally sat down and reviewed our finances, our plan was decidedly imperfect. Still, these kinds of actions lead us in the right direction, and we are now much further along in paying down our debt and managing our money than we ever would have been otherwise. Making that first step was the insurance that we needed to build on for future successes. This is great advice, do not wait!
